Feeble attempt at writing a children's story to not be too dark (another class assignment)

                                                Rita goes shopping
It was warm sunny December morning when Rita woke up. Looking out into the bright blue sky, Rita thought to herself, “Oh, I ought to finish my errands today.” And so Rita excitedly got out of bed and hopped into the shower. Rita had just moved into a new house and as her parents had gone away on a trip, she was in charge of the house. Well, her granny was there but it was difficult to say who was taking care of whom.
Rita hurriedly gobbled up her breakfast and put on her favorite yellow dress for her day in the sun. She had made a list of things to do throughout the day, just like her mom. Rita felt like a grown-up today, and why wouldn’t she? She would be turning 12 in a week. “The grown-ups don’t ride their cycles”, thought Rita to herself “They always take the bus, so I will take the bus too.” Rita gleefully skipped to the bus station to hop on to the next bus into town. She waited and waited, buses came and went, but alas! She did not know which bus actually led her where she needed to go, the crowd would just shuffle and huddle into the bus together and before she could blink, the bus would move away. After waiting for 20 minutes, Rita defeated, decided to give up and go home when she saw the bus schedule posted on the station. “It was here all along”, she said as she laughed to herself and got onto bus 302A which would lead her into the town and drop her at mall where she could happily finish her errands. Rita looked out the window as the bus started moving and the world flashed by and in no time she was at the mall.
As soon as she reached the mall, she ran to the stationary section of the mall. She could gt here with her eyes closed as it was her favorite shop in the mall and she and been there hundreds of times. The different colored papers, pens, paints, it all left Rita in awe. After an hour, Rita bought everything she needed to buy from her shopping list for her new school year that was going to start soon. She checked her watch and it was already half past 3! It was already past lunch time. So Rita hurriedly ran to the bus station and got into the bus. She was so tired that she did not realize when her eyes closed and she fell asleep. When she woke up, the bus was empty! Rita looked outside the window and she could only see grey houses. The conductor told her this was the last stop and so Rita had to get off here. Rita started getting scared as she realized that she was lost. She could not even call her parents and granny could not drive. “Oh no! What am I going to do” As tears started to well up in her eyes, Rita heard someone call her name. It was Ms. Basnet from next door. She ran up to her and hugged her, oh she had never been happier to see this nosy old lady, but today she saved her life! And so Ms. Basnet offered to drop Rita home on her scooter. Rita was very excited as she had never been on a scooter before. She put on the bright yellow helmet that matched her dress and they sped on. With the wind rustling in her hair and the bright blue sky, Rita felt very happy.
Suddenly, Rita heard a faint crying noise in the distance, and as she looked closely, she saw that the noise was coming from a small white ball. “What could this crying white ball possibly be?” said Rita to Ms. Basnet.  Ms. Basnet stopped the scooty and they went over to find that the white ball was actually a new born pup. As the pup seemed to be hungry and weak, they decided to take her home. As soon as they reached, Rita took the pup inside and showed it to her grandma who fed it some milk. Ms. Basnet asked Rita, “Do you want to name the puppy?” And Rita looked at it and as it reminded her of Caspar the ghost, Rita named the pup Caspar the dog. “Do you want to adopt the pup?” asked Granny to Rita. Rita squealed and jumped in the air with joy as she screamed “YES!” Ms. Basnet, Granny and Rita started laughing as the puppy jumped onto Rita and showered her with kisses. “What an adventurous day it has been, thought Rita!” Not only did she go into the town all by herself but she made two new friends. “Growing up sure is fun”, thought Rita as she looked up at the bright blue sky.
